Four Terry Fox statues to be erected outside of BC Place Stadium

A series of four

bronze statues depicting Terry Fox will be erected on the plaza outside Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium named after the Marathon of Hope hero. A depiction of the statues, which were designed by Vancouver artist and writer Douglas Coupland, was unveiled Tuesday at a news conference attended by his mother Betty Fox, right, and Premier Gordon Campbell. The statues will grow in stature, starting with a life-size depiction and concluding with a representation of the Port Coquitlam, B.C., runner twice life-size. Fox lost his leg to cancer in 1977 and decided in 1980 to raise money for cancer research by running across the country. But his trip ended the same year it began when the cancer returned.
