Bronze sculpture of Beth Tweddle

The Metquarter is showing its support of the Olympic games by displaying a bronze statue of three-times world champion gymnast and local hero Beth Tweddle.

The sculpture designed by artist Peter Barnes shows a twice life size Beth holding a pose with all the grace and finesse that helped her achieve a gold medal victory in the 2010 World Championships.

Beth, who has also seen past success with the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club team, got the chance to see the statue at the British Gymnastic Championships last month and later contacted Peter to wish him luck with the exhibition.

The sculpture will now be available for the public to see for themselves at the Metquarter shopping centre, from August 16 until August 12.

Jennina O’Neill, Metquarter Centre Manager, said: “Peter’s sculptures are beautifully crafted and we are delighted to host this amazing statue of Beth to show our support for our talented local Olympic gymnast in Team GB. “Although the final statue is beauti-fully finished in bronze, we are all hoping for an Olympic gold for Beth.”
