Pacquiao no show in statue unveiling at MOA

MANILA, Philippines — Though he is still alive and at the peak of his career, Manny Pacquiao already has a statue in honor of his great achievements.

Alaxan, produced by United Laboratories, together with SM Malls, got together to erect a bronze statue in the image of the boxer, together with other hard working Pinoys such as a farmer, construction worker, nurse and a teacher.

Many celebrities were on hand on Friday at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to honor the Pacman, like Jed Madella and Hall of Fame bowler Paeng Nepumoceno.

Alaxan and the Department of Labor also honored the winner of the online contest in the search of the toughest jobs. And the winner, who came all the way from the United Kingdom, was Rey Lachico, an environmental and product chemist.

But, the problem was, as the Alaxan ad’s tagline goes, “Aray” was what happened during the unveiling as the Sarangani congressman was a no-show.

Pacquiao was reportedly still going around his district in Sarangani on Friday thanking his constituents for their support in his fight against Mexico’s Antonio Margarito last Nov. 13.

Congressman Pacquiao’s office had prepared a statement, and it did advise organizers that he may not make it.

After the event, even after the unveiling of the bronze statues made by artist Fred Baldemor, there was no mention of Pacquiao’s name, nor was his statement read.
