Big Statues Unveils Custom Bronze Memorial Statue Honoring Clemson Football Standout Diondre Overton

Big Statues created a custom bronze memorial statue honoring former Clemson football player Diondre Overton. Learn how this life-size bronze monument preserves his legacy, celebrates his accomplishments, and serves as a lasting place of remembrance for family, teammates, and the community.

A life-size bronze statue preserves the legacy of a beloved athlete, leader, and mentor whose impact continues to inspire.

A new custom bronze memorial statue now stands as a lasting tribute to Diondre Marquez Overton—a Clemson football standout whose life was defined by athletic excellence, unwavering faith, humble leadership, and a commitment to serving others.

Created by Big Statues, the life-size bronze sculpture was commissioned to honor Diondre's remarkable journey while providing family, friends, teammates, and supporters with a permanent place to remember and celebrate his legacy. Mounted on an elegant granite pedestal, the memorial reflects not only his accomplishments on the football field, but the character that made him unforgettable.

"Diondre's story deserved to be preserved in a way that would inspire people for generations," said Matt Glenn, lead sculptor at Big Statues. "Our goal with every memorial is to create more than a likeness—we strive to capture the spirit of the individual and create a place where people can gather, reflect, and celebrate a life well lived."

A Life of Leadership and Perseverance

Born on April 19, 1998, Diondre began his athletic career in basketball before becoming one of North Carolina's premier football recruits at Walter Hines Page High School. His senior season included 78 receptions, 1,251 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns, earning four-star recruit status and a scholarship to Clemson University.

At Clemson, Diondre made an immediate impact, catching a touchdown on his very first collegiate reception. During his four seasons with the Tigers, he recorded 52 receptions for 777 yards and seven touchdowns while helping Clemson capture National Championships in 2016 and 2018.

His senior season further demonstrated his leadership, earning recognition as an Offensive Team Captain, Academic All-ACC honoree, ACC Receiver of the Week, and recipient of multiple team awards for accountability, hustle, and offensive excellence.

One of his most memorable moments came in 2018 when an acrobatic touchdown catch against Wake Forest earned national recognition on ESPN's You Got Mossed segment.

Yet for those who knew him best, Diondre's greatest accomplishments extended far beyond football.

More Than an Athlete

After college, Diondre continued pursuing professional football with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Vienna Vikings, Philadelphia Stars, Pittsburgh Maulers, and Memphis Showboats.

Throughout every stop in his career, teammates remembered him as someone who led with humility, encouraged others, and lived his faith openly.

Nicknamed "Big Play Dre," he earned a reputation for delivering in the biggest moments while remaining grounded and selfless off the field.

Following his tragic passing on September 7, 2024, loved ones established the Hustle and Heart – The Diondre Overton Foundation, which is dedicated to mentoring young people through education, leadership development, counseling, and scholarship opportunities. The foundation continues the mission Diondre lived every day—helping others believe in themselves and overcome adversity.

Preserving a Legacy in Bronze

For the artists at Big Statues, creating the memorial required balancing technical craftsmanship with deep respect for Diondre's life and legacy.

Every detail—from his expression and posture to the carefully crafted bronze finish—was designed to create a sculpture that feels both timeless and personal. The polished granite base complements the bronze, creating a dignified memorial that will endure for generations.

Unlike temporary memorials, bronze monuments become permanent landmarks where stories continue to be shared. They offer future generations an opportunity to learn about the people who shaped their communities and inspired those around them.

"Bronze has been used for centuries to honor individuals whose lives deserve to be remembered," said a Big Statues team member. "It allows families and communities to preserve history in a way that will last for decades, long after they're gone. It's a sure way to leave your impression on the world."
