Bronze Statue of Tim Tebow Presented During Florida’s Spring Game

The life-sized representations of 2007 Heisman winner Tebow, 1996 Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel and 1966 Heisman winner Steve Spurrier were revealed during halftime of the Orange and Blue Debut.

Shortly after Florida unveiled the life size statues of its three former Heisman Trophy winners Saturday, icon QB Tim Tebow took the mike and brought a rise to the crowd at Florida Field.

“I’ll tell you what,” Tebow said Saturday. “There’s nothing like coming back to The Swamp.”

The life-sized representations of 2007 Heisman winner Tebow, 1996 Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel and 1966 Heisman winner Steve Spurrier were revealed during halftime of the Orange and Blue Debut.

Both Tebow and Wuerffel attended the ceremony. Spurrier couldn’t make it because he was coaching South Carolina’s spring game. Spurrier’s daughter, Amy Moody, stood in for the Gator legend.

Wuerffel, who led Florida to its first football national title in 1996, said he was flattered with the honor.

“When do you ever think growing up that you’ll have a statue somewhere where people will look at it and have great memories?” Wuerffel said. “It’s even more special being next to two guys that I love and admire.”

Spurrier thanked Florida in a video message played over the stadium Jumbotron.

“It’s not often in life people dedicate a statue to you,” Moody said. “It means a great deal. I can’t tell you what it means to be here representing my family.”

The bronze statues, which weigh a combined 17,000 pounds. They feature poses of Wuerffel and Spurrier throwing and Tebow running. The statues are located on the west side of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Tebow, who ran for a Southeastern Conference-record 57 touchdowns, said he didn’t mind the running pose.

“That’s fine,” Tebow said with a laugh. “You have to change it up. We can’t all be throwing.”

Tebow drew the loudest ovation during the ceremony, due to the fact that he’s the most recent UF graduate.

“I feel like I’m not just a player, but I’m a part of it,” Tebow said. “I grew up a Gator and being that just makes it that much more special.

“Being able to watch Spurrier coach and Danny play and having those relationships now is so special. The best thing is being able to come back here and see my teammates and enjoy time with them.”
