Honoring a lifetime of leadership, service, and dedication to the Gulf Coast community, Big Statues proudly created a life-size bronze bench sculpture of George A. Schloegel, former Chairman and CEO of Hancock Whitney and former mayor of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Schloegel's remarkable career began at just 16 years old, working as a mailroom runner at Hancock Bank for one dollar an hour. Over the next 50 years, he worked his way through the organization, eventually becoming Chairman and CEO. Beyond banking, Schloegel was deeply committed to strengthening his community, playing a significant role in the Gulf Coast's recovery following Hurricane Katrina and later serving as mayor of Gulfport from 2009 to 2013.
Unveiled on October 8, 2026, the custom bronze sculpture is located at Hancock Whitney Plaza in downtown Gulfport. The statue depicts Schloegel seated on a bench, facing the 15-story corporate headquarters he helped design and build in the late 1970s.
Created by Big Statues sculptor Matt Glenn, the sculpture offers visitors a place to sit alongside a man whose leadership and generosity left a lasting impact on the region. The tribute stands within the George A. Schloegel Lighthouse Memorial Park, honoring his legacy of service, resilience, and community involvement.
Big Statues is proud to have contributed to this meaningful memorial, preserving Schloegel's story through a lasting work of bronze art.
