Col. John Morley Bronze Statue | Lawrence, Kansas

October 13, 2026

Honoring a century of leadership, innovation, and dedication to the game of golf, Big Statues proudly created a custom bronze statue of Col. John Morley, founder and first president of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

In 1926, Morley brought together a group of greenkeepers with a shared vision of advancing their profession and strengthening the golf industry. What began as a small organization has grown into an international association representing more than 21,000 members worldwide.

Unveiled on October 8, 2026, at GCSAA headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas, the statue was commissioned to commemorate the association's 100th anniversary. The unveiling was part of GCSAA's Celebration of a Century, bringing together members, industry leaders, and supporters to recognize the organization's history and the people who helped shape it.

The bronze sculpture now stands in GCSAA's Centennial Plaza alongside a statue of legendary golfer and greenkeeper Old Tom Morris. Together, these monuments recognize two influential figures whose contributions helped shape the game of golf.

Big Statues is proud to have played a role in preserving Morley's legacy through a lasting bronze tribute that will inspire future generations.
