POURING MELTED BRONZE INTO SHELLS

The lost wax bronze casting process has been around for thousands of years. This post is a step by step outline of how the process is still being used today to create bronze statues all over the world. Once the artist has created his clay statue, a silicone mold is applied and backed with a fiberglass mother mold or casing. The mold is then removed from the clay statue and the sent to the foundry where the lost wax method begins.

The process is called lost wax because the wax is actually melted out of the ceramic shells and lost before the bronze is melted and poured into the shells. I will continue this post  tomorrow.
